There is a lot to deal with if you have been charged with or convicted of DUI. In most states, one of your first goals will be getting an Ignition Interlock Device installed, so we at Smart Start want to make the process as easy as possible. We’ll be with you through the whole process, from before you get your Ignition Interlock Device (IID) installed, all the way through to the end of your IID requirement.

This blog explains the basics of you’ll need for your Ignition Interlock installation. You can also find specific information about your state requirements below.

The First Steps to Installing Your Ignition Interlock Device

The first step is to make an appointment. Making an appointment is quick and easy. You can call [company_variable name=”Corporate Telephone Number Link”] or fill out our online form. Our Customer Care specialists will be able to set an appointment at a service center that’s convenient to you, often on the same day.

Before you schedule your Ignition Interlock installation, it’s a good idea to gather some info that you’ll need along the way. That will keep the process going smoothly as you start down the road to your installation appointment.

Here is a list of general information that you will need:

  • Name and date of birth
  • Contact information
  • Driver’s license number
  • The color, make, model and year of the vehicle the Interlock will be installed in.
  • Case number (if applicable)
  • Attorney (if applicable)
  • Depending on where you’re located, your county and/or state of conviction
  • Your State Authority’s name (whomever is overseeing your Ignition Interlock program)

If you drive more than one vehicle, each will have to have an IID. Also, in some states, you’ll need a notarized statement from the vehicle owner if you are using one that is not under your name.

You just confirmed your scheduled Interlock Device installation appointment at your nearest Smart Start service center, so you are on the right track to getting back on the road again. But what do you need to take with you to your installation appointment?
